Roomie Remote knows how important your information is and knows you care about how it is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. This document describes our privacy policy. By using Roomie Remote apps or websites including the old Simple Control apps and this app or website or the Intercomm app, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Statement.
Your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. We do not share any information outside of Roomie Remote.
Note that we are not responsible for the content or the privacy policies for web sites to which we may link.
We may collect information submitted by you for the purposes of purchasing Roomie Remote products, or registering to use our support forums.
Note that no information whatsoever on purchases made on the App Store from Apple is provided to us beyond the name of your Country. We are not provided and do not retain any information or have any control whatsoever over App Store information, Apple IDs, or purchases made there. We receive only statistical information regarding the number of purchases in a given country and no information on the actual purchasers. This also applies to any in-app purchase made within the Roomie Remote application.
To provide Alexa Control, you may need to establish an account using an e-mail address and password. If you do not use the Alexa Control feature, there is no need to establish an account with us.
Our web servers collect information via the industry-standard Google Analytics tool that identifies your IP address, browser type, operating system, and other non-personal information in the form of anonymous web logs to help with site maintenance and improvements. This data is viewed as anonymous statistics to show the busiest times of the day or week, pages with errors and how effective our advertising has been. This information is not used for any other purpose and the information cannot be accessed by any other party.
Since Roomie Remote 6, user configurations are never stored on our servers or sent to us in any form unless you explicitly send it to us manually as part of a support ticket for analysis.
Roomie Remote includes an optional xAI Voice feature that, when explicitly activated by you, uses a third-party AI service (xAI) to process voice commands. When xAI Voice mode is active, audio from your microphone is streamed to xAI's servers for real-time speech recognition and command processing. Audio is only transmitted during active voice sessions and is not recorded or sent at any other time. Information about your room and device names may also be sent to enable command processing. This feature requires you to provide your own xAI API key, and your use of the xAI service is subject to xAI's own terms and privacy policy. The window edges will glow and blink orange whenever audio is actively being transmitted. If you do not activate xAI Voice mode, no audio data is sent to any third-party AI service.
FilmVault is our movie and TV collection catalog. This section describes FilmVault specifically; where it differs from the rest of this policy, this section governs.
Signing in. FilmVault's only sign-in is Sign in with Apple. There is no username and no password. Apple gives us a unique identifier for your account and, if you choose to share it, an email address. Apple's Hide My Email is fully supported — if you use it, we never see your real address. We do not receive your Apple ID password or any other Apple account information.
What we store on our servers. With the Starter Pack or Collector Pack, your collection catalog is mirrored to our servers so your devices stay in sync: the titles and editions you own, their formats, your ratings, your watch history, purchase dates and prices, your notes, and text the app has read from disc covers. The cover photographs themselves are not part of that sync — they stay on your device and in your own backups. On the free tier there is no sync, so no copy of your collection is kept on our servers. Contributions to the shared catalog, described next, are separate from sync and work at every tier.
Contributing to the shared catalog. FilmVault keeps a shared catalog of disc barcodes, so that scanning a disc identifies it. Two kinds of contribution feed that catalog. First, when the app identifies a disc it may send the barcode together with the matched title and format. Those records describe the disc, not you: they carry no account identifier and nothing about the rest of your collection. Second, if you photograph a disc's cover and leave "Share with Community" switched on — it is on by default, and you can turn it off in the capture screen — the app also sends those cover images. Sharing covers requires signing in, so those uploads are authenticated with your account and we can tell which account a cover came from; the record also carries a per-device identifier. Contributions of either kind go into a review queue and are checked by our staff before they become visible to anyone else.
What we do not collect. FilmVault contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, and performs no cross-app tracking; its privacy manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking = false. We do not collect behavioral or usage data, we do not build profiles, and we do not sell or share your information.
Purchases. In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. As described elsewhere in this policy, Apple does not tell us who purchased.
Other services the app contacts. Movie and TV metadata and artwork come from TMDb; barcode and title lookups go to our own servers. Those requests carry the search term or barcode, not your identity and not your collection. FilmVault uses the TMDb API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDb.
Your own devices. When you import from Kaleidescape, Kodi, or Plex, FilmVault talks directly to those servers on your local network. That traffic never reaches us. Local network access is used solely to find and read your own media servers, and is never used for tracking.
Backups. FilmVault writes automatic backups to your own iCloud Drive (iCloud Drive ▸ FilmVault ▸ Backups). Those files are yours; we have no access to them.
Retention and deletion. We keep your synced catalog for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, at Settings ▸ Delete Account — this permanently removes the account and all of the collection data we hold for it. You may also write to support@roomieremote.com.
Children. FilmVault is rated 4+, is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Cookies are used to provide additional features as well as to help us improve the web site and user experience. For example, the forum software uses cookies to track when you last visited to provide additional features such as displaying new messages since your last visit, as well as the ability to keep you logged in, if desired. We also use Google Analytics to see how our sites are being used. No personal information is provided to Google; instead usage statistics are collected to see how our sites are used and to gain insight on how we can improve them.
